OUR LADY OF VICTORY

Vocations Committee Minimize
The OLV Vocation Committee is dedicated to the building up of a culture supportive of the discernment of all vocations. In particular, the vocation committee promotes and encourages the discernment of priestly and religious vocations as they are essential to the continued health of our Catholic Church. By making aware the need for more priests and consecrated religious in our Church, the vocation committee intends to engage all people in seeking out God’s will for their lives and to support them in following it. We do this in cooperation with the family as the seedbed of faith and vocational discernment.

Are you hearing the call that God is giving you?  Is your answer “Here I am Lord”?  Everyone prays about whether they are called to serve the church as a priest or sister at some point in their life.  YouTube videos have been added to the vocation committee page.  One video is called Fishers of Men and is a great short movie in two clips on the priesthood today.  It is a great inspirational piece and one that everyone should watch.  The other video is an interview with a young nun talking about her call to be a young nun today and the beauty and strength she gets out of it as a woman.  Check the videos out today and encourage someone today to consider becoming a priest, sister, or religious.  It is our responsibility as Catholics to encourage and invite youth to consider this great call to follow God in service of the church.  God is waiting….

Prayer for Vocations

Almighty Father,
You have created us for some definite purpose.
Grant us the grace to know the path
You have planned for us in this life
and to respond with a generous “Yes.”
Make our archdiocese, parishes, homes and hearts
fruitful ground for Your gift of vocations.
May our young people respond to Your call
with courage and zeal.
Stir among our men a desire and the strength
to be good and holy priests.
Bless us with consecrated religious and those called to a
chaste single life, permanent deacons,
and faithful husbands and wives,
who are a sign of Christ’s love for His Church.
We commend our prayer for vocations to You, Father,
through the intercession of Mary our Mother,
in the Holy Spirit,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

– Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr
