Sacraments

Involvement in the Sacramental Life of the Church is a primary component of being Catholic. These wonderful gifts help us grow closer to one another and to our God. We are blessed as Catholics to have them be part of our tradition. It is our expectation that each individual and/or family desiring to enter into one or more of these processes is already a practicing member of OLV and wishes to deepen that relationship, growing in Faith and their connection to OLV.

 Sacrament of Baptism

“Baptism, the gate to the sacraments, necessary for salvation in fact or at least in intention, by which men and women are freed from their sins, are reborn as children of God and, configured to Christ by an indelible character, are incorporated in the Church, is validly conferred only by washing with true water together with the form of words.” (Canon 849)

 Sacrament of Matrimony

“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.” (Canon 1055).

Sacrament of Confirmation

“The sacrament of confirmation impresses a character and by it the baptized, continuing on the path of Christian initiation, are enriched by the gift of the Holy Spirit and bound more perfectly to the Church; it straightens them and obliges them more firmly to be witnesses to Christ by word and deed and to spread and defend the faith.” (Canon 879).

Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

“The anointing of the sick by which the Church commends to the suffering and glorified Lord the faithful who are dangerously sick so that He can relieve and save them, is conferred by anointing them with oil and using the words prescribed in the liturgical books.” (Canon 998)

Scheduling a Wedding

To reserve date and make arrangements for marriage, you must call and schedule an appointment with one of the priests at least six months to a year in advance. This should be done at the same time you make other arrangements, e.g. your reception. Attendance at a marriage preparation program is required.

Anointing of the Sick

Family members should notify the Parish Office of any need for Annointing of the Sick, Holy Communion or Pastoral calls to those who are sick, shut-in or hospitalized.
